What Is Included in Your Testing?
Your at-home testing includes both a comprehensive semen analysis and sperm DNA testing.
Your semen analysis looks at:
Semen volume
Sperm concentration
Total sperm count
Motility, or how well the sperm move
Morphology, or the shape of the sperm
Other important semen parameters
These numbers give us a starting point for understanding sperm production and overall semen quality.
Your sperm DNA testing goes one step further.
Traditional semen parameters don't tell us everything about sperm health.
Sperm DNA testing evaluates the integrity of the genetic material carried by the sperm, giving us another piece of information to consider when looking at your fertility picture as a whole.
We don't want to look at one number in isolation.
We want to understand what your results may be telling us and whether anything deserves further investigation.
How Does At-Home Male Fertility Testing Work?
We designed this service to make testing as convenient as possible.
1. You purchase the service.
Once you get started, The Cycle Script orders your semen analysis and sperm DNA testing for you.
2. The testing company contacts you.
You'll receive an email directly from the testing company with a few questions that need to be completed before your testing can move forward.
Keep an eye on your inbox. It is your responsibility to complete these questions once they are sent to you.
3. Your kit comes to your home.
No clinic appointment.
No taking time off work.
No providing a sample in a clinic collection room.
Your testing kit is shipped directly to you so you can complete your sample privately at home.
4. You collect your sample and send it back.
Follow the instructions provided with your kit, package your sample, and return it to the laboratory.
Your kit includes the necessary shipping materials and return label, making it easy to send your sample back.
5. Your results come directly to us.
Once the laboratory processes your sample, your results are sent directly to The Cycle Script.
Then it's our turn.
6. We create your individualized Action Plan.
We review your semen analysis and sperm DNA results and create an Action Plan based on your specific findings.
You'll know what your results mean, what deserves your attention, and what we recommend doing next.
Your Results Should Come With a Plan

Why Might Semen Analysis Results Be Abnormal?
There isn't one single cause of male factor infertility.
Abnormal semen parameters can be associated with many different factors, including:
Hormonal abnormalities
Varicocele
Problems with sperm production
Certain medications
Testosterone or anabolic steroid use
Previous infections, surgeries, or injuries
Obstruction
Genetic conditions
Tobacco, alcohol, or other exposures
Metabolic health

That's why an abnormal semen analysis shouldn't be the end of the conversation… it should help guide what we investigate next.
Why Test the Male Partner?
Because fertility isn't only a female issue. Male factor fertility issues present in 30-50% of couples facing infertility.
Male factors contribute to a significant percentage of infertility cases, yet the female partner can still end up carrying most of the burden of fertility testing.
She may be:

Getting blood drawn.

A Very Important Note About Testosterone
If you're trying to conceive, we want you to know this:
Taking testosterone can suppress sperm production.
Testosterone injections, gels, pellets, and anabolic steroids can interfere with the hormonal signals your body needs to produce sperm.
For some men, this can lead to very low sperm counts or even no sperm in the ejaculate.
If you're currently using testosterone and fertility is a goal, don't stop a prescribed medication on your own.
Instead, talk with the prescribing provider or a provider experienced in male fertility about your fertility goals and whether other options may be appropriate.
Who Is This Testing For?
At-home male fertility testing may be a good fit if:
You and your partner are currently trying to conceive
You've been trying without success
You've had an abnormal semen analysis in the past
Male factor infertility has been suspected
You want a more comprehensive look at sperm health
You want to evaluate both partners instead of focusing only on female fertility
You're preparing to start trying and want more information beforehand
You want testing without having to provide a sample at a clinic
And you don't necessarily have to wait until you've been trying for a year.
There are traditional timelines for when a complete infertility evaluation is recommended.

What About Male Fertility Supplements?
There are a lot of supplements promising to "boost sperm."
Unfortunately, it isn't that simple.
Current evidence doesn't support giving every man experiencing infertility a giant fertility supplement and assuming that will solve the problem.
We want supplementation to have a reason.
Depending on your results and overall picture, certain supplements may be worth considering.
But supplements are only one potential piece of the plan.
We'd rather help you identify what actually deserves your attention than give you a long list of things to buy.
