Menstrual Cycle Irregularities

If your cycle feels unpredictable, irregular, confusing, or just off, you’re not alone, even if you’ve been told everything is “normal.”

Many people come here saying things like:

  • My cycle length changes every month

  • I don’t know if I’m ovulating

  • My periods are painful or exhausting

  • My symptoms don’t follow a clear pattern

  • I’ve been told to just go on birth control

And usually, no one has ever actually explained what your cycle is supposed to look like, or what your symptoms might be trying to tell you.

Your menstrual cycle is not random, it’s a vital sign and should be treated as such.

The Current Landscape in the Land of Menstrual Cycle Issues:

Women are told from a young age to not have sex because you’ll become pregnant, instead of teaching them what a fertile window is.

Then they’re put on oral birth control for any and all menstrual cycle issues that arise in their teen years to “regulate” their cycle. (By issues I mean: excessive bleeding, excruciating pain, cycles that last longer than 35 days, no periods at all, and clotty periods.)

They stay on said birth control until they want to become pregnant, and then stop taking it, only to find these issues still exist and are sometimes worse.

Women are shocked to learn that just having sex unfortunately does not always cause automatic pregnancy, as they were taught from a young age.

Next, the same women are told to just try for 6 months to a year and if you aren’t pregnant just come back in.

If not pregnant at a year, THEN we can begin testing to see if there is an underlying cause of infertility.

THERE HAS TO BE A BETTER WAY

The mission and purpose(s) of The Cycle Script is to:

A) help the teenager understand and resolve her menstrual issues without simply masking symptoms with birth control

B) help the 20 or 30-something year old woman understand what is going on with her cycle, what it could mean for her overall health, and what to do about it

C) be a resource and two extra brains that really care for the woman who wants to be pregnant more than anything and feels so defeated after walking out of the doctors office without any answers yet again and was told to just keep trying

There are many, many holes in the land of women’s health that we hope to fill including:

  • Being a service option women can choose if they don’t want to wait an entire year before beginning any testing

  • Addressing menstrual issues as they arise (teen years and beyond), rather than acting like they only matter when women want to get pregnant

  • A more holistic option for women, rather than jumping straight into pharmaceutical or invasive options like IVF

  • Another set (or two sets) of eyes and ears to provide holistic and lifestyle recommendations to actually correct your menstrual cycle, rather than masking it with birth control

What counts as menstrual cycle irregularity?

Cycle irregularities aren’t just missed periods.

They can include:

  • Cycles that are consistently longer or shorter than expected

  • Large variations in cycle length month to month

  • Painful periods that disrupt daily life

  • Heavy bleeding or clotting

  • Spotting between periods

  • PMS that feels extreme or unmanageable

  • Unclear ovulation timing

  • Symptoms that don’t match where you are in your cycle

Even when labs or imaging come back normal, these patterns still matter.

How this service helps make sense of your cycle

When I review your intake, I’m looking at your cycle as a whole, not isolated symptoms.

We look at:

  • Cycle length and consistency

  • Ovulation timing and signs

  • Bleeding patterns

  • Pain and symptom timing

  • Stress, sleep, and recovery

  • Nutrition and fueling

  • Exercise habits

  • Past birth control use

  • Symptoms that are often brushed off as “just hormones”

From there, I explain:

  • What your cycle is doing

  • Where things may be getting disrupted

  • Why your symptoms make sense

  • What deserves attention now

  • What you don’t need to panic about

This isn’t about labeling you with a diagnosis.
It’s about understanding your body and having a clear path moving forward.

To help you collect your own menstrual cycle data, we created The Ultimate Cycle Tracker

The ultimate cycle tracker uses a coverline algorithm based on your basal body temperature, similar to a popular wearable device, but free. To use this correctly, you will need an oral thermometer and diligence when it comes to taking your temperature each morning.
